Health

Mongolian climate and food are healthy.

Although there are no obligatory vaccinations required to enter in Mongolia, but anti Hepatitis, Tetanus and Typhoid vaccinations are recommended.

Drugs are rare and it is necessary to bring your personal treatment as well as a basic medical kit, including at least wide spectrum antibiotic, anti inflammatory and local disinfecting solution.

Meals and Restaurants

Also you can delicious by Mongolian traditional milk products such as Aaruul and Urum, or so-called white butter, from milk. Urum is served to the guest first as a light snack, which can be eaten by itself or with cheese or dried curds, or it can be put into tea. For the any people Aaruul is literally a hard nut to crack. Specialists believe that Aaruul is one of the factors responsible for the Mongols’ strong and healthy teeth. Aaruul is curdled milk, dehydrated and thoroughly dried in the air and sun.

Visas and Mongolian Embassies

Diplomatic representatives abroad and honorary counsels of Mongolia have the rights to issue to foreign citizens Mongolian visas. No official or private invitation is needed for a foreign citizen (except the citizens of Russia and China) applying for a Mongolian visa, if the duration of the visitors stay does not exceed one month.

Citizens of Poland, Kazakhstan, do not require a visa for a visit not exceeding three months.
Citizens of Malaysia, Israel, do not need a visa for visit not exceeding one month.
Citizens of Philippines are allowed to enter Mongolia for a visit not exceeding three weeks. Citizens of Singapore do not need a visa for visit not exceeding two weeks. Citizens of People’s Republic of China, Vietnam, Bulgaria and Romania, who has diplomatic and service passports, do not require a visa for visits to Mongolia.
Citizens of Russia, Laos, Yugoslavia, Czech, Slovak, who has diplomatic and service passports, do not require a visa for visits not exceeding three months.
Citizens of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Republic of Korea, Thailand, Hungary, Turkey, who has diplomatic and service passports, do not need a visa for visits not exceeding one month.
Citizens of India shall have Mongolian visa without visa application and visa fee.
Foreign nationals from other countries, which have no agreement on relaxing visa regime on the basis of reciprocity wishing to pay a visit to Mongolia for more than 30 days, should have an official or private invitation.

Visa application forms are obtainable at appropriate Mongolian Embassies. One-month tourist visas can be obtained at airport upon arrival in Mongolia. Needed documents are generally.

What to Bring?

Warm solid clothes are absolutely needed whatever is the travel season.

Raincoats are necessary in summer season. You must also bring some light clothes for warm sunny days, as well as hat, sunglasses and solar lotion.

Do not miss to bring a swimsuit in summer as you may enjoy swimming in clear fresh lakes and rivers during hot days.

When to Travel?

Best time to travel and sightseeing is definitely summer (July and August) even if corresponding to the "rain season". Showers could be hard but do not last too long.

Temperatures in summer can have big amplitude during the day and mostly between day and night.

Snow is not unknown in summer even if high temperatures could be also experienced.

ASpring (May and June even if still cold) is marvelous when flowers explode in the steppes.
Golden Autumn (September, October) is short, chilly in night, but splendid.
Winter trips are not impossible but are to be considered very seriously regarding very low temperatures and climate hazards. Appropriate equipment is absolutely necessary.

Money and Security

It is better to bring cash in US Dollars and change it locally.

The rate is around 1208 tugrugs for 1 US$.

It is possible to get cash in UB banks - mainly Trade and Development Bank and Golomt Bank - with Traveller's checks or Visa card.

About the security, Mongolia is a quite secure place with no serious crimes against foreigners.
In towns, main danger is pickpockets in crowded places like markets.
In countryside, you will be welcomed everywhere, as far as you do not offense voluntarily people or nature.

Local Formalities

To enter in Mongolia, you will have to fill out a customs declaration form for money and dutiable goods you bring with you. This form will be checked on arrival as well as before leaving, so do not loose it on the way.

Import prohibited items are mainly guns and illegal drugs, as well as any publication against Mongolia. You can legally import: 600 cigarettes, 2 bottles of alcohol, 3 bottles and perfumes.

Export prohibited items are antiques, furs, archeological and pale ontological findings except if you can get permit from Mongolian authorities.
